Ownership switch for El Argentino

elargentiono2009Sergio Szpolski has sold half of his share in his media company to Grupo 23 to Matías Garfunkel.

The Argentine free daily El Argentino is part of the deal.

El Argentina was launched in July 2008 and is competing with free daily La Razón by Grupo Clarin.

Szpolski has always been a supported of the Kirchner presidency and was ‘rewarded’ according to some sources by substantial government advertising contracts.

Szpolski also owns the Spanish version of Newsweek, 7Dias, Veintitrés and free airport newspaper La Gaceta del Cielo.

The government is less happy with some other publishers and was trying to get control over paper production in the country.
