Free weekly in Perth

In June 2009, the local government in Perth (West Australia) asked for a bid for exclusive distribution rights for a free afternoon newspaper in the city.

Apparently no publisher made a bid for a daily, but Murdoch’s News Corp., publisher of The Sunday Times, recently launched free weekly PerthNow, using the same name as the news website, launched in 2006. The paper counts 36 pages and is published every Wednesday.

Perthnow claims the paper is “supported by the City of Perth” but fails to explain how this support is organized.

The only daily newspaper in the city now is the West-Australian.
