Österreich reaches break-even

ÖsterreichPublisher Wolfgang Fellner announced last week that his free/paid paper Österreich reached break-even after four years. (Die Presse)

The paper was launched in September 2006 and extended circulation from 120,000 to 340,00 copies in 2010 (more than 500,000 for the Sunday paper). Latest official free circulation was 225,000 (2010).

Around 70% of the copies (weekdays) are free, although also on Sundays the paper (cover price 70c) was available for free in Vienna this Sunday.

Österreich wants to expand readership to a million – from 660,000 now – and also start a separate website www.österreich.at. It now uses www.oe24.at.
