20 Minutes France ends AFP subscription

20minutes2008French free daily 20 Minutes, the largest and best-read national daily in the country, ended its subscription to national French wire service Agence France Presse (AFP) in October.

According to the management it was a purely economic decision, as cost were considered too high. Metro ended its AFP subscription some years ago.

20 Minutes now depends on Reuter’s newsfeed, which is seen as ‘much lighter’ by journalists and therefore could lead to problems (Le Monde).

It must be noted that worldwide AFP is considered as a relatively inexpensive wire service as it is heavily  sponsored by the French government.
