Profits again for Metro UK
Even in the recession year 2009, Metro UK (Associated Newspapers) made a profit according to an article in the Financial Times. This is the 7th year of profits for Metro, after three loss making startup years.
In 2009 the paper got rid of two competitors, London Lite (Associated Newspapers) and thelondonpaper (News Corp). It now competes in the free market with the Evening Standard, a paper that only recently went free.
Metro now distributes 1.3 million copies in ten different editions in the UK. More than half of it is distributed in London.
