Heute shelves Sunday paper plan

There will be no Sunday edition of the free Austrian daily Heute this year. Publisher Eva Dichand prefers to roll out the paper in areas outside Vienna according to an interview in Der Standard. The costs of a launch might be very high.

The editions in Linz and Niederösterreich (St. Pölten) are much less successful than the Vienna edition, as Dichand also talked about Burgenland (area east of Vienna), perhaps the Vienna editions will be distributed there or a new edition could be launched.

Outside Vienna the paper has more problems to attract readers and advertisers than in Vienna, earlier a Graz edition was closed down.

In Graz, leading paid paper Kleine Zeitung, however, is launching a free Sunday paper on April 11 according to Der Standard.
