Frees third & fourth in Austria

heute2009With 711,000 readers, free daily Heute is now the third paper in Austria, surpassing free/paid paper Österreich that is now the fourth paper in the country according to the 2009 Media-Analyse research.

Heute had 544,000 readers in 2007 (own research) and 680,000 readers in 2008/2009. Österreich saw readership decline from 702,000 in 2008 to 671,000 readers in 2009.

Paid market leader Kronen Zeitung is – again – losing readers, from 2,944,000 in 2008 to 2,853,000 in 2009. In 2005 the paper still had 3,074,000 readers.

Also Kronen’s Mediaprint partner Kurier saw its readership decline. In 2005 it had 771,000 readers, in 2008 625,000 readers were left, in 2009 the paper is fifth with 618,000 readers.
