Free dailies 2010: the age of the happy monopolist

coverhpFor the January / February issue of UK media magazine InPublishing I wrote an article “Free dailies 2010: the age of the happy monopolist” about the development of free dailies in Europe from 1995 to the present.

It looks like consolidation resulted in markets with only one or a few free dailies – in contrast to some years ago when 4 to 5 was not exceptional – who often operate in cooperation with paid newspapers in the market.

Inpublishing will be send to subscribers this week, an electronic version (with graphics) and a podcast will be available then. The ‘raw version’ of the article can be read in InPublishing’s knowlegde bank.
