Hitza – Basque free daily

busturialdekohitza2010Already in 2003, free daily Hirza (”Word”), was launched in the Basque country, in the north of Spain.

The paper, published in the Basque language, started in that year with three editions, two in the province of Gipuzkoa: Tolosaldeko eta Leitzako Hitza (Tolosa) and Oarsoaldeko Hitza (Renteria); and Lea Artibai eta Mutrikuko in Markina (province of Bizkaia).

In 2004 editions for Goierriko Hitza (Beasain) and Uribe Kostako Hitza (Zarautz), both in Gipuzkoa were added.

A year after that the last two editions, Busturialdeko Hitza in Bermeo (Bizkaia – left) and Irutxuluko Hitza (Donostia / San Sebasti√°n) in Gipuzkoa, were launched.

Update 20 January: Publisher is Euskarazko Komunikazio Taldea, also publishing paid Basqua language daily Berria; successor of the Egunkaria paper, that was closed by the Spanish government for supposedly supporting the terrorist organization ETA.
