Danish frees apply for state aid

urban2009adLike last year, Danish free dailies – like almost all dailies and many magazines – will apply for state aid for distribution purposes.

For 2009, MetroXpress and 24timer (both majority owned by Metro Interational) received €2.3m for distribution (see previous post). Free daily Urban (Berlingske) ‘forgot’ to apply for funds but corrected that later by receiving €1m for other purposes from the Danish Press Fund (see previous post).

The condition that newspapers receiving state aid, cannot contain more than 50% of advertising, might be a problem for Urban according to MediaWatch who pointed that the Urban issue of 3 September (cover left) devoted something like 20 of the 64 pages on advertising.
