East Valley Tribune to close down
The last issue of the East Valley Tribune (Phoenix, Ar.) will be published on December 31. After the paper’s parent company Freedom Communications filed for bankruptcy and is now operating under Chapter 11 reorganization, it tried to sell the paper but no realistic offers have been put forward.
Chief Executive Burl Osborne said “This is a terrible day for the company, a terrible day for the Tribune.”
The paper was launched in 2007 and changed to a four-days-a-week schedule in the beginning of 2009. In May it dropped the Saturday edition (see previous post). The Tribune was serving Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and Queen Creek with a total circulation of 100,000.
