DNews sees advertising increase

In disregard of the recession, free Italian paper DNews (Milan, Rome, Bergamo and Verona) saw a 10% rise in advertising revenue (€3.4 million) in the first 6 months of 2009 compared to the same period last year. DNews, however, only started in March 2008.

According to Claudio Noziglia, president of publisher Mag Editoriale Srl, national advertising increased with an average of 50% every month. Half of advertising is national, the other half local.

The publisher hopes to have a total revenue of €7 million by the end of the year, which would mean an increase of 25% compared to 2008. Next year DNews expects to reach break-even (PublicitaItalia).

Current circulation of the four editions of DNews is around 500,000 – although there were plans to start Brescia, Torino and Bologna editions as well.
