Pagina Um – Brazil

In Parana, in the Southern part of Brazil, free daily Pagina Um started in January 2005 in the town of Castro as a free model. For this municipality, and for Carambeí, Piraí do Sul, Tibagi and Arapoti is it also the ‘official’ paper, meaning it seems to be financed for an important part by government advertising.

The model was developed in a journalism course in the University of Ponta Grossa already in 1989, indicating the paper was a weekly first.

Circulation is 5,000 copies – most of it seems to be free “circula diariamente e gratuitamente” although there seems to be a subscription model as well if you want the paper to be delivered. Distribution is by paid paper Folha de Londrina.

Pagina Um is published Tuesday to Saturday. Pdf, jpg and flash versions – also an archive – are on the website. (ABYZ Newslinks)
