Correio da Baixada

Free paper Correio da Baixada was discovered by ABYZ’s Marv Carson – the expert on Latin American newspapers – who also discovered that the paper already died after a little more than a year.

Correio da Baixada was launched in the Baixada Fluminense area north of Rio de Janeiro March 3, 2008 and closed down probably last month. Publisher was Monitor Mercantil – a Brazilian business newspaper with editions in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

The 100,000 copies were distributed in the afternoon, targeting commuters returning from Rio.

The paper was launched in the seventies as a paid paper, and existed until the eighties. Monitor Mercantil bought the title and decided to relaunch it as a free daily.
