One year of Blick am Abend

On June 2, Swiss free afternoon daily Blick am Abend celebrated its first anniversary with a cover of covers.

The free afternoon edition of paid morning paper Blick is the successor of  Heute, also published by Swiss market leader Ringier in the afternoon between 2008 and 2008. The two papers join the same newsroom.

Were Heute kept a low profile, Blick am Abend is much more agresive in marketing, publicity and content. It launched a campaign against German finance minister who criticized the Swiss bank.

Recently it expanded number of pages for domestic news while it also reports more on international affairs and economic news according to editor Peter Röthlisberger in Persoenlich.

In August Blick am Abend will launch two new editions in Luzern and St. Gallen. Circulation will increase from 250,000 to 300,000. It is now available in editions for Zurich, Basle and Berne. With 1.6 to 1.7 readers per copy the paper hopes to reach 500,000 daily readers. The paper is now still losing money.
