SF City Star closed

The last edition of the City Star, free local ‘neighborhood’ daily in San Francisco, was published on Friday May 15. After the closure of the Baltimore edition of the Examiner, this is the second free daily of Philip Anschutz’ media group Clarity Media closing.

According to Free-daily.com) the last edition contained no neighborhood news at all while also the number of ads was very low. The paper will be replaced by a section on Wednesdays and Fridays in the SF Examiner, Anschutz’s metropolitan free daily. (picture from free-daily.com)

The Star was launched on November 1, 2006, mainly to compete with the San Francisco Daily (Now SF Daily Post) that was launched six months before by Dave Price and Jim Pavelich.

The Star had a circulation of around 6,000 and shared offices with The Examiner.
