El Argentino ads Sunday edition

Buenos Aires free daily El Argentino, launched in July 2008 (see previous post), added a Sunday edition last month. The paper now also has a fully operational website.

The paper claimed a circulation of 250,000 in the beginning, but now a figure of around 80,000 seems more realistic. There is no official audited circulation data as the paper is not audited by IVC.

Publisher of the paper is Sergio Szpolski, a business man with strong political ties, also involved in banking and other media operations like the Argentinian version of Newsweek, the magazine Buenos Aires Herald and the economic daily BAE.

In Buenos Aires El Argentino competes with La Razon, launched in 1999 as free afternoon paper but introducing a morning paper when El Argentino started. The afternoon edition of La Razon was terminated in December 2008.
