Dutch free paper circulation dropped in 2008

Compared to the year 2007 total Dutch circulation of free newspapers dropped with 400,000 copies to 1.4 million.

The main cause was the closure of free daily DAG (PCM publishers) in October but also the decrease in circulation of De Pers – down with 23% to 378,000 – had a substantial impact.

Metro increased circulation with 3% to 533,000 copies, making it the second paper in the Netherlands after paid paper De Telegraaf. Spits increased circulation with +2% to 431,000 and is fourth after paid paper AD. (data: Hoi)
