MEN down in staff, circulation & pages

Almost 40 people will lose their job at free/paid Manchester Evening News. The paper will also reduce the page count and lower free circulation.

Publisher GMG Regional Media (part of The Guardian group) will also let the same number of people go at the weekly community papers the company publishes. (The Guardian)

The Manchester Evening News published a ‘lite’ version from March 2005 to April 2006 when the publisher decided to distribute the MEN for free in the city centre while keeping the cover price for other areas.

Since this model was introduced in May 2006 the free distribution increased to 80,000. Paid circulation, however, dropped significantly.
