Le Universo de Madrid closed

Free Madrid daily ‘Le Universo de Madrid’ closed down at the end of December last year. The paper was launched by Livisa Investment, S.L in 2004. In April 2008 Artes Gráficas Barnivolt S.L. took over the company.

Livisa Investment still publishes a free daily in Almeria (Diario de Almeria); the Diario del Mediterraneo. published in Benidorm was closed down in 2006.

According to El Mundo, the 11 staff members were sacked without notice and without any form of compensation at the end of December. According to these employees there were no financial problems at the paper.

The last issue in pdf-format (3 December) is still on the website.
