MEN-case presented at WAN conference

The case of the part-paid / part-free distributed Manchester Evening News (MEN) will be presented at the World Newspaper Advertising Conference in Barcelona on 28 and 29 May.

In May 2006 the paid paper decided to distribute part of the circulation for free. In the city center papers were free of charge, outside that area the paper still had to be paid for.

In total circulation increased although paid circulation dropped significantly. In 2006 paid circulation was 130,000 – in 2008 it was 80,000. Total circulation increased to 180,000.

In the presentation the emphasis will be on the sales strategy of the paper.
