How much does a free daily costs?

How much money is involved in launching and operating a free daily? For the Dutch free daily DAG, launched in May 2007 and closed in October 2008, publisher PCM provided some figures.

The launch and operating the paper for one and a half year amounted to €18 million according to PCM director Bert Groenewegen in the internal magazine ‘Enter’. The net loss for PCM was €14 million.
