Free papers gain readers in Slovenia

Both free daily Zurnal24 and free weekly Zurnal increased their readership in 2008 compared to the 2007/2008 data. Zurnal24 now has 212,000 daily readers, against 201,000 in the 2007/2008 survey.

Paid tabloid Slovenske novice is still the best-read paper in the country with 350,000 readers although it lost slightly compared to the previous period. Also other paid papers Delo, Dnevnik and Vecer lost readers.

Sister-title Zurnal, the free weekend weekly of the Styria group is second in the weeklies group with 368,000 readers (357,000 in the previous period). It is rapidly closing the gap with the still best-read weekly Nedeljski Dnevnik (387,000 readers against 416,000 in 2007/2008). Free Dobro Jutro is third with 306,000 readers (down from 340,000).

Internet portal zurnal24.si had a 145% growth from autumn 2007 to autumn 2008, and is now the leading Slovene newspaper portal with 285,000 unique users, followed by finance.si (232,000 users), delo.si (230,000), dnevnik.si (205,000) and vecer.si (151,000).
