Reach of frees increases in Israel

In the second half of 2008, Israel’s free dailies Israel Today, 24 Minutes, and Israel Post reached 26.9% of the population. In the first six months of 2008 this was 22.5%, according to a TGI survey.

The TGI survey also showed that 11.3% of the public only read free dailies in the last period, up from 8.5% in the first half of 2008. A quarter of the readers of free dailies read more than one title.

The number of newspaper readers increased to 60.9% (59.1% in 2008-I). Paid newspapers Yediot Ahronot, Ma’ariv, Haaretz and Globes saw readership drop from 50.1% to 49.3%, indicating that the increase in readership was caused by free dailies. (Globes)
