Dutch free weeklies go crossmedia

After employing Twitter (see previous post) to post recent headlines, Dutch publisher BDU now added the “.nl” to all titles of the printed versions of their free and paid weeklies since January.

BDU publishes more than twenty weeklies in the center of the country (most of them free) and paid paper De Barneveldse Krant – the smallest paper in the Netherlands with a circulation of only 10,000.

According to Vincent Leenders of Skopamedia.nl, the company that is responsible for the online activities of the papers, traffic to the websites have increased with almost 20% last month.
