Austrian frees invited in readership survey?

More than 20% of the Austrian newspaper circulation consists of free newspapers, but Austria is still the only country in Europe – although I am not sure about Albania – were free papers are not allowed to take part in either readership surveys or circulation audits.

In the future something ‘might’ happen as the readership survey organisation Media-Analyse is now putting together a group that investigates the matter. The answer is not expected before the summer, meaning that even with a positive answer free readership will not be audited – if ever – before 2010. (Der Standard)
