Job cuts at Spanish free dailies

According to PR Noticias at least 200 people have lost their job at the four national free dailies in Spain as a result of the economic crisis.

Market leader 20 Minutos cut 40 jobs while Qué! – losing €12m this year – will say goodbye to 91 staff members. Metro will go on with 27 people less, including director Carlos Salas. ADN closed down the Galician editions, the number of people that lost their job in the operation is not known.

In July 20 Minutos already sacked 20 people while in January another 20 will go, bringing to total to 80. Salaries at the paper were cut as well to avoid further dismissals.
