762nd and last issue of 24 Hodin

Friday 19 December, the 762nd and last issue of Czech free daily 24 Hodin (24 hours) was published. Swiss publisher Ringier, owner of paid paper Blesk, launched the paper in November 2005.

That that time, 24 Hodin was the second free daily in Prague, as Metro was already launched in 1997.

In April 2006 Metropolitni Expres (by Mafra, also publishing paid paper Dnes) was launched while at the same time a 4th paper, Kuryr Praha, started. This last title was already closed down after two months.

German publisher Rheinische Post, owner of Mafra, bought 60% of the shares of Metro at the end of 2007 and closed down Metropolitni Express in April of this year.

In 2009 only Metro (in three editions) and free business paper E15 (launched in Novmeber 2007) are published in the Czech Republic.
