Bolloré expands in 2009

The Bolloré media group will launch Direct Nice on January 6. The new edition will have a circulation of 35,000. At the same time the circulation of Direct Matin (Paris) will be increased with 50,000 copies to almost 500,000. Le Monde has a 30% stake in Direct Matin.

Total circulation of the Direct papers – which also includes free evening paper Direct Soir (517.000 copies) and Direct Bretagne (30,000 copies) will rise to more than one million.

Circulation of the morning paper only (probably including Plus-editions in other cities as well) is expected to grow to 800,000 according to Jean-Christophe Thiery, president of Bolloré Média:

Our goal for 2009 is to become bigger than 20 Minutes and Métro. In total we want to grow to almost 800,000 copies at the end of the first quarter.

The plans include a Toulouse edition of 30.000 copies and an edition for Strasbourg as well. The Bretagne edition will be called Direct Nantes from January on. (Reuters via TradingSat)
