Today Singapore cuts weekend circulation

Singapore free daily Today (MediaCorp) will cut the circulation of the weekend edition to 150,000 according to the Strait Times. MediaCorp Press managing director Philip Koh said to the paper: “we understand that tough times are here and every cent matters”.

In April 2008 the overall circulation of Today was increased from 250,000 to 300,000. If the weekday circulation still is 300,000 the average circulation will be 275,000 now.

Today launched in 2000, and added a weekend edition 2 years later. In 2004 it ‘merged’ with competitor Streats (Singapore Press Holdings) that was launched in 2000 as well. SPH now holds a 40% stake in Today.

Publisher MediaCorp is a government controlled organization while SPH is government owned.

SPH launched a Chinese language free daily ‘My Paper’ in 2006.
