African market shares of free dailies

Compared to other continents, free dailies have only a marginal market share in Africa. Only in four countries free papers are published, but three of those (South-Africa, Morocco and Egypt) have only been added recently to the list of countries with free newspapers. Also circulation is rather low as can been seen in the graph.

In Botswana the government operates the market leader Daily News, in Egypt and Morocco only one title is published. Circulation is in thousands. Paid data is from 2007, circulation data on free dailies is the most recent (2007 and 2008).
