Irish implications of INM-DMGT pact

The joining of back office operations of The Independent (Independent News & Media) and the Daily Mail (DMGT / Associated Newspapers) might have implications for the Irish capital Dublin, according to the Guardian’s Roy Greenslade.

In Dublin the new UK-partners operate competing free dailies: Herald AM (INM) and Metro (a joint venture between DMGT, Metro International and the Irish Times).

Both papers started in 2005 and have been competing on readership and circulation ever since. The Herald AM distributes around 76,000 copies a day, Metro a few thousands less.

(Left the Metro frontpage of today – tasteless for some, brillant according to others – actually a advertising wrap for the new game ‘Resistance 2′. Herald AM had a similar 4-page wrap.)
