Czech newspaper circulation 1995-2008

Circulation of free dailies in the Czech Republic will be almost ‘back to normal’ at the end of the year after 11 years of free newspapers. In 1997 Metro was launched with a circulation of 200,000 – after almost a dozen year it has doubled.

Three of the competitors closed down: 24 Hodin (2005-2008), Metropolitni Expres (2006-2008) and Kuryr (2006).

The development of paid circulation seems not really related to that of the free papers. Between 1995 and 1998 circulation dropped sharply and remained stable after that. A light increase in 2005 was followed by small losses in the next years (2008 is estimate).
