The value of Qué!

Spanish news website El Confidential reported on the share and value of the third Spanish free daily Qué! When the Recoletos group, publisher of business paper Expansion and sports paper Marca – and founder of Qué! in 2005 – was sold to Unidad Editorial (El Mundo), Qué! was left out of the deal.

Last year it was purchased by the Vocento group (ABC and regional papers) for €132m. According to El Confidential the real value was only €47m. The remaining €85m was for ‘goodwill’.

President of the Recoletos group was Jaime Castellanos, his brother Carlos Castellanos was working for the buyer Vocento at that time according to El Confidential.

Nevertheless, Vocento still made a profit in the first nine months of 2008, but mostly because of sales of property and shares in other operations.
