MetroXpress & 24timer best-read in Denmark

Although the graph suggest that Metro (MetroXpress in Denmark) and 24timer are the second and third paper in the country, Nyhedsavisen, the paper with the highest number of readers in the first six months of 2008, closed down, leaving the top position to MetroXpress and 24timer.

MetroXpress, however, lost readers over the last years, also because of heavy competition (which is no longer there now). From the second half of 2006 on, when there were 680,000 daily readers, the paper dropped to 494,000 readers in 2008. (click on graph for better view)

Also 24timer, now owned by Metro International, lost readers: 494,000 now against 535,000 in 2007. Urban, now the 6th paper in Denmark lost in the last year, going down from 624,000 in 2006 to 430,000 now.

Paid paper Jyllands Posten also lost a substantial number of readers over the last years, from more than 600,000 in 2006 to less than 500,000 now.

Politiken, Ekstra Bladet and B.T., however, seem to gain readers in the last 12 months. (TNS/Gallup).
