East Valley Tribune from 5 to 4 days

Arizona daily East Valley Tribune will move from 5 to 4 days in January. A downturn in advertising is said to be responsible for the move.

The first section of the paid paper is available free in racks in the city centers. Paid circulation is 104,000 – the free circulation is about 15,000.

The paper only moved to the paid/free model in 2007. The paper will cut 142 jobs — about 40 percent of its overall staff.

It will withdraw from Scottsdale and Tempe as well, and concentrate on Mesa, Gilbert and other parts of the East Valley.

The paper announced on their website this week that is will be published on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, meaning the Thursday edition will be skipped. (free-daily blog)
