UK economy threatens newspapers

A World Advertising Research Center (WARC) report on the state of the UK economy and the possible consequences for different media contains some depressing news for newspapers in particular.

Consumer confidence in the UK is low, with low acceptance rates for mortgages. Chances for a recession are substantial. Print is expected to lose most in ad share, internet could gain something.

In earlier recessions also print in the UK lost more market share than other media. How free papers would respond to an economic change is not yet clear.
