Free weeklies in Germany

Germany lacks commuter free dailies, but has many free – mostly local – weeklies. In 2008 no less than 1400 different titles were published with a total circulation of 90 million. Both these numbers are slightly higher than in 2007.

Half of the free weeklies are published on Wednesday, more than a third on Saturday or Sunday. Circulation varies although half is between 10,000 and 50,000 copies a week. Almost 70 dailies distribute more than 200,000 copies a week.

In 2007 the free weeklies realized € 1,971 million in revenues. (Bundesverband Deutsche Anzeigenblätter – BVDA)
