Metro UK’s digital edition

The news of Metro UK launching an e-version (Press Gazette) was picked up by several other UK blogs and news websites.

They all copied the press release from the newspaper:

“The service is designed for people who could not pick up a copy of that day’s newspaper from its hundreds of distribution bins and vendors in bus, train and tube stations in 16 UK cities. Metro sends an email to users inviting them to see the paper as it was printed and lets them customize the kind of news and features they like, bookmark and download pages.”

What they didn’t report – probably because they didn’t check it – that the service actually sucks.

Most free papers have an e-reader, but Metro’s is the only one I know that requires registration and a daily e-mail. Without the daily spam, using the E-Metro is impossible.
