New ’supporter’ for DAG

Dutch free daily DAG by PCM publishers and telecom operator KPN is probably moving closer to paid PCM-title De Volkskrant this autumn.

The 8.9% owner of PCM, Stichting de Volkskrant, is thinking about support for the free daily. A definitive decision will be reached in September. (Adformatie)

DAG started using Volkskrant-copy in 2008 while the free paper is also supported by ads in their paid sister paper. The plan was to upgrade DAG and attract a better educated readership.

The phrasing ’support’ however, sounds somewhat desperate. A healthy paper, even if it is making no money in the first years, should have a sound business plan, not ’support’.
