Swedish frees lose readers
Stockholm free dailies Metro and City have lost readers in the first four months of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007. Metro went down from 554,000 to 545,000 daily readers while City (Bonnier) had 482,000 readers now against 518,000 in 2007.
In the first three months of 2008 Punk.SE, however, was still published. Last month this free paper by Schibsted closed down. Readership figures for the next period therefore are expected to rise again.
Also in Göteborg Metro lost readers (from 226,000 to 208,000) although City was not published in 2008. In Malmö, however, readership went up from 140,000 to 149,000. In both markets Punk.SE also closed down in May 2008.
Paid papers Dagens Nyheter, Göteborgs Posten and Svenska Dagbladet increased readership. Sydsvenskan, Aftonbladet and Expressen lost readers. (Orvesto Konsument research, through Publicitas Newsletter)

In fact nationwide, Metro readership increased by 2% YoY to an all time high of 1.589m daily readers - or 22% daily reach.
Metro confirms its position of the most read newspaper in Sweden. The gap with the closest competitor increased from 250,000 to 388,000 daily readers.
The title of the article is therefore incorrect.
