Spits wants to end newspaper subscription
Being a free newspaper, Dutch daily Spits is not concerned with subscription. In their Monday issue, however, they provided some tips for readers to save money.
One of the tips was to end magazine and newspapers subscription. Not very supportive for magazines and other papers of course, but a paper got to do what a paper gotta do.
Curious, however, were the examples Spits gave. First you have to cancel some magazines: Donald Duck (Disney weekly), Libelle (woman’s magazine) and Autoweek (cars). All published by Sanoma, the major competitor of TMG (Telegraaf Media Group) in magazines.
The magazines by TMG – surprisingly also the publisher of Spits – were not among the examples, although ending the subscription on PrivĂ© (gossip), Autovisie (cars) or Elegance (woman’s magazine) would benefit the reader just as well.
Apart from that, Spits also suggested that readers end their subscription to daily newspapers. The only example mentioned was Het Parool, competitor of TMG national daily De Telegraaf and Spits in Amsterdam. The TMG titles were not mentioned. Spits suggested that instead of subscribing to Het Parool, buying a national daily on Saturday (De Telegraaf?) would be just as good…
