All Spanish frees see readership grow

All four Spanish national free dailies have more readers in the first report of 2008 (April 2007 - March 2008) than in previous periods. Most paid papers, however, also had more readers in the latest audit.

20 Minutos is still the best read paper in Spain with 2,685,000 readers (+ 7% compared to the previous audit). Paid sports paper Marca is second with 2,550,000 readers. Also Marca gained readers.

El País is third with 2,336,000 readers; Qué! is fourth with 2,106,000 readers (8% up). Metro has 1,764,000 readers (+3%) which makes it the fifth paper in Spain.

The fastest growing paper in terms of readership is ADN. The paper has now 1,636,000 daily readers, an increase of 16% compared to the previous audit. ADN is sixth in readership, before El Mundo. (EGM)

PRnoticias does some weird tricks with the data. According to the website free dailies have 8.2 million readers against 14.2 million for paid papers. They arrive at this figure by adding all readers up, something that cannot be done of course because readers can read more free dailies and many of them read paid dailies as well. (Journalist are very fond of figures but not very good at calculations.) Total Spanish newspaper readership is 16 million.
