Bolloré newspapers hurt by strike
The two French free dailies published by Vincent Bolloré, MatinPlus and Direct Soir, were not published last Thursday and Friday because of strikes by public transport workers in France. (iMedias)
Oher free dailies like 20 Minutes and Metro did publish on these days, suggesting that the urgency to put a newspaper out and serving loyal readers is higher at the more established titles than at Bolloré’s ventures that only started in 2006 and 2007.
The end might not in sight as French unions of transport workers and civil servants have announced new strikes for later this month. Distribution of free papers through public transport, however, is problematic for every paper during the strike.
