Bulgarian free weekly

dialog.jpgAs German publisher WAZ (Trud and 24 Hours) dominate the Bulgarian newspaper landscape, and WAZ is not very friendly to free dailies, they have not much of a chance.

In August of last year publisher Economedia (Dnevnik) planned a free daily but WAZ threatened to launch of free daily of their own to counter the initiatve. WAZ said that free dailies do not serve the readers as they offer them “pseudo-journalism” that just “fill in the space between advertisements” (see previous post).

In Varna, the second town of Bulgaria, however, a new free weekly has emerged: Dialog. WAZ is warned: what can happen on weekly basis can also happen daily and from Varna to Sofia is not that far.
