Australian readership

Free Australian daily mX has seen readership increase in Sydney and Melbourne. In Sydney readership doubled since 2005, in Melbourne it increased with more than 50% compared to 2001 when the paper was launched. The amount of readers per copy, however, is not impresive yet. The Brisbane edition (launched in March 2007) has not been audited although publisher News Ltd. claimed a readership of 74,000 in December 2006.

National daily The Australian is slowly increasing readership over the last two years although the amount of readers in June 2007 (449,000) is only slightly more than in 2001. In New South Wales (Sydney) the Daily Telegraph and the Sydney Morning Herald are also more or less stable. Free afternoon daily mX claims a circulation of around 100,000 which is equal to its readership.

In Melbourne mX has been on the market since 2001 - it showed a steady rising readership, up from 100,000 in 2001 to 157,000 in 2007. Circulation is around 90,000. The Herald Sun has seen its circulation drop since 2004 while The Age has been gaining readers over the last years.
