Market shares Europe
In 2006 the average market share of free dailies in Europe grew to 22 percent – a 8 percent rise compared to 2005 when it was still 14 percent. Three countries have a higher circulation of free dailies than paid dailies on an average weekday: Iceland, Spain and Denmark (in Iceland also in weekends). In 15 countries the market share of free dailies is above 20 percent. Total paid circulation in Europe (except Russia, Serbia and Belarus – there are no data for these countries) went down from 87 million to 86 million; free circulation went up from 15 to 26 million.
