Metro 2006 in numbers

metroannual.jpgThe annual report of Metro International offered more than the first profit ($13m) ever for the company. Total revenues have inceased to $416m, while there are 1,500 people working for Metro, more than 500 of them journalists. Daily readership is more than 20 million while the paper is published in more than 100 cities. Profits were good in Sweden and the Netherlands while Southern Europe reached break-even. Also the operations in Canada and Korea contributed to the profits. The US, Portugal, Italy and the Czech Republic are still losing money.

The company also published 77 ‘other’ products, mainly monthly and weekly magazines. One of the latest launches is the Hong Kong MetroPop magazine which also can be flipped through online. More than half (51%) of the readers are female, 44% is under 34. The online Metro Life Panel now has 20,000 members.
