Adelson wants Maariv or new free daily
American billionaire Sheldon Adelson still wants to buy the Israeli Maariv newspaper. At the same time, however, he is planning another free newspaper Israel Today, that will launch in June if the Maariv deal doesn’t succeed. The initial circulation of the home-delivered paper by publisher NewsCo will be 250,000. There is now only one free dail: Israeli, which is jointly owned by Adelson and Shlomo Ben-Zvi – both partners are engaged in legal battles over the title. Also there is a plan by Eli Azur, owner of the Jerusalem Post, and Dudi Wiessman, to launch a free paper.
