Fairfax fights mX with website
One week after the launch of the Brisbane edition of free daily mX, Murdoch’s rival in Australia, Fairfax, launched a special Brisbane website: the BrisbaneTimes with quality news and gossip for Australia’s fastest growing market. There will be 14 people working for the new website that also will use content from other Fairfax sources. In 2001 the two companies already crossed swords over free publications. Both launched free dailies in Melbourne in February, but Fairfax had to close down their Melbourne Express in September. Murdoch’s mX survived and publishes now three editions with a joint circulation of 250,000.
